That allows to assume that the nature and the surroundings offered enough opportunities for the survival. The first record of the town in writing is dated to the 13th century, specifically 1220, when it was mentioned as a settlement called Felnemet. Being on the then Hungarian Queen\u2019s land at the lower stream of the River Horn\u00e1d, the territory of Kechnec (Kenyhecz in Hungarian) was settled by German immigrants at the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries. We know that from the Varadin\u2019s Register of 1220.         <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-604\" src=\"https:\/\/kechnec.pixeled.website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/sperky_full-300x203.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"203\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kechnec.pixeled.website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/sperky_full-300x203.webp 300w, https:\/\/kechnec.pixeled.website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/sperky_full-1024x693.webp 1024w, https:\/\/kechnec.pixeled.website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/sperky_full-768x520.webp 768w, https:\/\/kechnec.pixeled.website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/sperky_full-1536x1039.webp 1536w, https:\/\/kechnec.pixeled.website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/sperky_full.webp 1700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In 1295 the Queen Agnes gave the town of Kechnec, together with another 7 small towns to Menne, a surrogate breastfeeder of King Ladislaus IV. An old document dated to 1338 says that in our town there was a mill, located near the present town of Se\u0148a, which was preserved to the modern times. This documents active work and life of local farmers. <\/p>\n<p>The King Sisigmund, another major player in the history of the town, gave Kechnec to the Marmoss administrator Peter of Perin. It was a gift for his loyalty and military merits. This fact documents the importance of Kechnec at that time. The donation and merit document is interesting due to its bilingual name \u2013 Felnemethy alio domine Kemnech.   <\/p>\n<p>Although already before the time of arrival of German colonists the town of Kechnec had had its own Slavic name, which the Germans adopted, it also got its official Hungarian name Feln\u00e9meti. In 1560 the town was named Kenyhecz Nempty, in 1605 Kenyhecz, in 1808 Kechnec, and the last mentioned name has been preserved until now. According to the conscriptions of local priests and churches, in 1746 people in Kechnec spoke Slovak and Hungarian, like it is nowadays.  <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-607\" src=\"https:\/\/kechnec.pixeled.website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/theatre_full-300x198.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kechnec.pixeled.website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/theatre_full-300x198.webp 300w, https:\/\/kechnec.pixeled.website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/theatre_full-1024x676.webp 1024w, https:\/\/kechnec.pixeled.website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/theatre_full-768x507.webp 768w, https:\/\/kechnec.pixeled.website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/theatre_full.webp 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The importance of Kechnec is also stressed by the fact that it was on an important merchant route, called the Buda one or the Pest one. But often it found itself on a major military route as well. <\/p>\n<p>A number of major landowners were resident in the town, from among which it is worth to mention the Kenyheczi and Czikovics families. J\u00e1nos Czikovics obtained Kechnec from King Leopold I in 1689 in Vienna. <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-605\" src=\"https:\/\/kechnec.pixeled.website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/spevokol_full-300x206.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"206\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kechnec.pixeled.website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/spevokol_full-300x206.webp 300w, https:\/\/kechnec.pixeled.website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/spevokol_full-1024x704.webp 1024w, https:\/\/kechnec.pixeled.website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/spevokol_full-768x528.webp 768w, https:\/\/kechnec.pixeled.website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/spevokol_full-1536x1056.webp 1536w, https:\/\/kechnec.pixeled.website\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/spevokol_full.webp 1606w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Religion has a long tradition in Kechnec. During the Counter-Reformation period and the insurrections led by the Transylvanian Protestant knight Imre Th\u00f6k\u00f6ly at the end of the 17th century, the local population was apparently forced to convert to Protestantism, in line with a slogan: \u201cAdopt your landowner\u2019s re\u00adligion.\u201d The Roman Catholic church building was subsequently levelled to the ground and it was not built up again until 1749, following an impulse given by the bishop Istvan Kaczer. Its latest reconstruction was made in 1992 \u2013 1993 and subsequently in 2006-2007.      <\/p>\n<p>In the 19th century, reputable families of J\u00e1nos M\u00e1c and of J\u00f3zef Horv\u00e1th, but also Ferdynandy, Pallagi, Teleki, Lejt\u00e9nyi, Vad\u00e1sz and Smith landowner families lived there. An officer of the Hungarian army Gejza T\u00f6r\u00f6k also had property in the town. The town of Kechnec also got into railway transport history books. The first train came to the town on 5th July 1860. It started in Miskolz and ended in Ko\u0161ice. A theatre also enjoys a long tradition in the town.       <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h6><strong>Previous Mayors:<\/strong><\/h6>\n<h3><strong>JUDr. Ing. Jozef Konkoly was the mayor of Kechnec since 1990. He graduated from the Law Faculty of the Comenius University in Bratislava and Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University in Ko\u0161ice.  <\/p>\n<p>Under his management the Municipality of Kechnec has underwent a rapid development. A complete infrastructure has been constructed: the public water main + the sewerage system, the water reservoir, the sources of water, the sewage treatment plant, the dwelling unit with 40 flats, the shopping centre, the Open Air Stage, the reconstruction of the central zone of the Municipality of Kechnec, the funeral home, the kindergarten, the Management and Maintenance Centre in the Industrial Zone of the Municipality of Kechnec. In the years 2002-2003 the Industrial Park of Kechnec was established, later it was renamed the Industrial Zone of Kechnec due to its size of 332 hectares, which has attracted 16 foreign and domestic investors.  <\/p>\n<p>The village built a professional sports center, health center, cultural center, modular elementary school classes 1 to 9 and are preparing projects such as the European Integrated School, Aquapark or a plant for meat processing and production of bakery products.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element
