The village is located in the Košice region, in the southern part of the Košice-okolie district, 0.5 km from the border crossing to Hungary.
Through the village passes the I. class road I/68, included in the network of international roads under the designation E71. This international road continues from the state crossing Milhosť / Hidasméneti to Miskolc in the Republic of Hungary.
Kechnec also has a railway connection. It is crossed by the railway line Košice – Kechnec – Hidasnémeti; included in the European agreement on the routes of the international combined agreement.
