ABOUT TOWN
The modern history of the village of Kechnec began with its independence, which took place on 1.
December 1990.
Between 1964 and 1986 it was part of the municipality of Hraničná pri Hornáde.
Later, after 1986, a three-volume association of the original municipalities of Seňa, Kechnec and Milhosť was formed.
Kechnec is a Slovak-Hungarian municipality with approximately equal percentages of Slovak and Hungarian inhabitants.
The development of the municipality is based on a comprehensive approach and takes into account all components of society – children and youth, working age population, pensioners. The aim is to create conditions for a fulfilling life for all citizens – students, entrepreneurs, investors, pensioners and visitors to the village.
Most of the projects were implemented by the municipality through its own construction company, Poľnohospodársko-stavebná výroba obce Kechnec, s.r.o. In addition to the economic benefits, the construction company also had a positive impact on reducing unemployment, as its employees were unemployed residents of the municipality of Kechnec.
Since the independence of our municipality in 1990 to the present Kechnec has undergone a significant shift in the quality of life of its inhabitants and the services provided by the municipality.
In this section, we present facts from the past to appreciate what we have available to us today.
In 1990 we started without a water supply, sewage sewerage system, sewage treatment plant, water reservoir, water treatment plant and sources of drinking water (our own wells for drinking water), without a funeral home, without a bell tower, without a parking lot in front of the cemetery. The cemetery was also in a dilapidated state, as was the municipal office building itself. The roads were in a dilapidated state, we had no sidewalks built with a storm water drainage system.
The centre of the village, including the bus stop, was in a dismal state, and the local commercial network was almost non-existent. The kindergarten required extensive reconstruction and modernization of the kindergarten several times and has been owned by the JRD operator for a long time. The voluntary fire station was liquidated, there was no comprehensively built infrastructure of the newly created building districts for individual housing construction.
The new building districts of Perínská cesta and Sóós Garden, the street leading to p. Schmidt, the street leading to the Mayor, the street leading to the Medve family, the street leading to the Ivan family, the street leading to the 40-unit dwelling were not provided with water, sanitary sewer, gas, storm sewer. No roads or sidewalks were built (except for the street leading to the Schmidt family, where a road was built with a sidewalk and a storm sewer, gas, water, and sewage were missing).
Until 1989 there were also streets where there was no paved asphalt road – e.g. Street leading to the Grümpner family along Sokoliansky brook, road leading to the pedestrian bridge by the current kindergarten, road leading to the 40-apartment unit.
There was no commercial unit at the current bus stop, there was no sports complex with a regeneration centre, there was no health care building in the cadastral area of Kechnec for children and adults, including a pharmacy, rehabilitation and dentist.
There was no modernized municipal office with a conference hall and a kitchen. The basement of the municipal office was not structurally complete (we removed 20 truckloads of trash during the cleanup), the restrooms were not functional by the time of construction, there was no parking lot in front of the office, there was no community center with a convention hall, lodging, and parking, there was no 40-unit apartment building to house 40 families, including a commercial unit, hair salon, barber shop, beauty shop, and ancillary spaces.
There was no amphitheatre with a recreation area where we organize various cultural and social events, with social facilities, a large TV screen with sound system, lighting and a water fountain.
There was no industrial zone with foreign and domestic investors from 8 countries of the world with a functioning comprehensive infrastructure. There were also 3,000 newly created jobs and another 10,000 or so related indirect jobs (various support services and supplies).
In 1989 the village had 636 inhabitants, today we register 1132 inhabitants. Municipal property in 1990 was 3 mil. CZK (then Czechoslovak crowns). To date, excluding any credit encumbrances, the municipal assets amount to 60,524,572 euros, i.e. j. CZK 2 billion.
The value created by foreign investors in the industrial zone, expressed in financial terms, is 1 billion euros (more than 30 billion CZK). The value created from municipal assets in financial terms per citizen (60 524 572 euros/1180 inhabitants) is 51 292 euros, i.e. j. SKK 1 545 223.
Cultural life was not developed in the village. We did not have a summer day camp for children, Kechnecká days, MDD, we did not lay wreaths in memory of the deceased, we lacked traditional Christmas, carnival and Easter festivities. In Kechnec, there were no popular music groups or artists of renown such as e.g. Peter Dvorský with accompanying orchestra and opera singer from Budapest, Ms. Ilona Tokodi. Until 2006 we did not have a municipal history and we lacked municipal symbols – coat of arms, seal, flag and insignia.
