Ing. Tomáš Konkoly, PhD. has been the mayor of Kechnec since 2022.
I am not a politician, I am first and foremost one of you, a native Kechne citizen who cares about preserving the values that have been hard built in this village with your support. I can promise you hard and honest work and that I will always be on your side, on the side of the citizens of Kechnec.
Why did I decide to run for mayor?
We are moving into a time when jobs need to be kept – rising costs will force companies to cut back – they will look to other countries where labour is cheaper, they may decide to lay off.
The new mayor must be a partner for the foreign owners – be able to speak to them directly, in English, German, Hungarian – not through an interpreter. They need to know how to conduct negotiations abroad and how to represent the municipality at international meetings. This will also be key to maintaining jobs.
Chceme udržať vytvorené hodnoty a kvalitu života v našej obci – nastupujeme do fázy, kedy budeme musieť šetriť – ale nie na úkor zatvárania a ukončovania toho, čo sme vytvorili. We will have to find new ways to maintain and develop municipal assets, and to do that we need to understand how we created those values – how things in the community were created, why we wanted them, built them, and who they are meant to serve.
The decision to run for mayor did not come easily. I am aware that if elected I will be forced to leave my comfort zone and stable job. But it is certainly worth the years of effort and sacrifice of my father.
I will do my best to meet your expectations and one thing I can promise is to work hard and honestly for Kechnec.
As a Member of Parliament, I have advocated and participated in many works and activities in the 2018-2022 parliamentary term:
- preparation of new building plots for individual residential construction, the process of property-legal arrangement of land under the access road is underway (we have settled the access road next to the municipal office, in case of the owners’ helpfulness the municipality will provide financial resources)
- Preparation of project documentation for the construction of a new kindergarten with a capacity of 160 children – the procurement process for the selection of the contractor is underway
- Replacement of surfaces on the sports complex
- attracting a new investor, Magna, to the former Molex premises – creating 100 direct new jobs and 600 additional secondary jobs as contractors
- Acquiring new investors Magna PT, Magna Electronics, Handtmann and others
- Development of the football club FK Kechnec with regard to the education of the new generation
- Building a bowling alley
- Organisation of cultural events
- Assistance during the COVID 19 pandemic and helping people affected by the war in Ukraine
- And many others
